We tested with 20 playtesters on Saturday 11/4 at the ETC. This was the first time people went through our experience on mobile.
All of the testing groups “got” the story. People had suggestions of how to make our game better.
–>This week we will add all of the interactables into each scene. More story elements alongside more manual elements. Put in-scene text boxes into image form.
2 groups of teens suggested quizzes. I asked how they studied for regular tests at school and they said they make flashcards (6/8 teens). Most of these teens were 15 and still waiting to take their permit exam.
–>This week we will polish the Lesson Book using flashcard style presentation and organization of the definition/information that they will have to memorize for their permit test.
Teens also said the thing they feared the most about driving was other drivers.
We had many testers outside of our demographic. About half were 20 and older, up to 60. These testers told us about learning to drive and teaching other people to drive (about 7 parents who had many stories of their kids crashing and learning to drive with different levels of confidence and success). Some people are naturally better drivers. We heard we should help teens practice failing in a safe learning environment. Told to focus on physics of driving a car and how mechanically a car works. In testers experiences, the unexpected moments were where they learned the most and changed their behavior (eg, slipping for the first time on ice, but more confident after that experience). Lead them to the moment of failure. Even if they see it coming…
Tomorrow we are testing the new version of the experience that we have been working on since Saturday. We are going back to Cornell HS in Coraopolis to test with teens.
