After analyzing our feedback we realized different insights into looking at our problem. We also understood that we are not going to get anywhere without trying out our ideas.

Improvement: Taking into account the feedback we got from our faculty we decided to implement and have a proof of concept to test whether what we are thinking is possible. We plan to keep continuing in this direction with both our playtesting and prototyping efforts so we can deliver an apt product for the Kenner room!

Work Done This Week

This week our process was divided into two parts. The first part is playtesting which includes testing user experience with our interactive mechanism of polling. The second part focused on prototyping and presenting our client a possible implementation of both the content and technology options and the possible budget for each option.

Technology

This week we made progress on the tech side and came up with up to 5 options for projection on the Kenner room wall and how much they will cost. We also had a prototype on the glass and film structure for testing projection which we built in our project room and Ningshan built a unity test project to test the light and touch sensors and their functionality on the glass piece shown below.

Providing Technology Options for the Client. Following our Friday meeting our Client confirmed we could go forward with using a rear projection film and phidgets as the tech for our project!

Content Design

Lu & Annie made progress on the content front and presented ideas which involved abstraction and languages as it’s key element. Our options included examples of shape and color and words. As the client had shown interest in the template idea, allowing him and his students to create content for our product we decided to come up with the following templates for which different contents can be created keeping in mind the upcoming events, occasions and meetings the room hosts.

Communicating Template Options with the Client. It perfectly captures the room in all its aspects and functions!

Challenges

Challenges this week revolved around finding possible content and technical options while taking into account all the limitations of the room and the client’s request to have an abstract and non linear aesthetic to the content we create for the installation.

Changes Made

We are in the process of working on the above challenge and create content that speaks of language and culture in a subtle yet impactful format. Technically our next step would be to test our prototype in the room itself in the coming week.

Plan for Next Week

Next week we plan to continue with our prototype and playtesting efforts from this week and keep getting better and better in gauging what will attract CMU students to interact with our projection wall.

(By Ruchi Hendre/02142020) Presentations & Critique: We finished our quarter presentations last week and gathered feedback from all the ETC Faculty regarding our problem statement.
