For Week 1, we set our firm project goal, plan out the semester, and studied on platform technology. Furthermore, we spent Week 1 getting set up in our project rooms, figuring out our roles on the team, and talking about what excites us in the space of classroom-based AR. As a discovery project, we also did not lock down our platform early on in the semester, so we decided to explore the strengths of a number of platforms (Hololens, Meta 2, maybe Magic Leap) as they relate to our experience goals.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Project Pupil aims to create prototypes to envision a framework for a future classrooms. Using augmented reality (AR) head-mounted displays, the team will explore gesture language in AR.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Why head-mounted displays? Before using boards or computers as education tools, students learned a subject by observing, feeling, and discussing real objects. These days, the main interaction has shifted from the to a 2D mode through paper or electronic devices. We seek to explore the return of education to the physical space, and discover design patterns and affordances to create pedagogically sound prototypes.<\/span><\/p>

So, we planned our project semester to be rapid prototype semester, which means we will have multiple prototypes that only conveys concepts to draw a design pattern from that.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Platform<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since we are AR head-mount focused project, we looked into Magic Leap, Hololens, and Meta II.<\/p>

Magic Leap is the promising one because it is the recent AR head-mound display platform in our current state. However, since it is the most recent one, developer tool wasn’t enough for us to do rapid prototype.<\/p>

So, while Yujin Ariza (programmer) looked into various platform we can use, the other programmer, Erhan Qu looked into Hololens to golden spike image tracking and camera detection.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
