Sadly the answers to both questions for our previous ideas are not convincing enough to proceed. As a result, we take a step back and restart our brainstorming process.

Unlike previous brainstorming, we freed ourselves from all constraints. And this process was very fun – we even thought about logistics area. Finally we nailed down 3 realistic ideas, and presented them on the second round of pitch on Wednesday. It turned out that our client was very excited about one of the ideas. Hooray! The idea she picks was the one we loved the most as well!

What’s more, we received reply from RAM technology, which greatly improved our understanding about RAM technology and what they can offer to us. Every object has its own secret music behind it and it’s unique. Now we are going to discover the relation between melody and objects.

Imagine that you are making a pottery in a workshop. After you finish your masterpiece, you push a button to scan your work. After several seconds, a piece of music echoes in the workshop, and this melody is from your pottery. You are not content with the music, so you change your pottery a little bit (also some parts of the melody changes as well). This process can be repeated forever until you own a piece of great melody, a pottery, and a virtual pottery that you can share with your friends. Whenever you put your pottery in front of the scanner, the melody you created plays.

Challenges

Music visualization is a new area for us though some of us can play piano or guitar. We need to learn a lot of new things in order to achieve our grand vision. What’s more, currently this idea is more like a concept instead of a solid plan. So we need to do more research on what other people did in this area and solidify our ideas into a measureable plan – we only have 12 weeks left.

Schedule for next week

Prototype! We will make our first prototype that is to make a simple virtual 3D object sound. Also, we are going to evaluate some existing tools to see if we can use any of them to boost our progress. After all those, we will have another meeting to nail down all the details and milestones for our project.

Besides all those, we need to prepare our promotion materials like postal, half-sheet, this website, and so on.

In conclusion, we are very excited about the project and looking forward its great experience! 🙂

Overview of the Week This week’s keyword – Idea!
