In my past lives I\u2019ve been a photographer and I can draw. So I will be assisting with the programming and filming side of the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">This week I\u2019m taking over the project blog to talk about recent developments.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"graf graf--h4\">The learnings<\/h4>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">The most interesting insights that we have gained are around a presentation that Dr Kody J. Manke, from the department of Psychology at CMU, did for our class. The presentation majorly covered <strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Stereotype Threat<\/strong>, which means that <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">members of a community are or are at a risk of conforming to the stereotypes of their social group<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Another huge take away was how much being in a racism salient situation changes how people would behave, as opposed to normal situations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"graf graf--pullquote\"><p>Why groups differ in performance is not the same as why individuals differ in performance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"graf graf--h4\">The Brainstorming<\/h4>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">We have narrowed down the emotions that we\u2019d like to achieve with the experience that we build to two. <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Empathy<\/em> and <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Discovery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Empathy<\/em> because if the people who interact with the experience connect with the characters on an emotional level, we can have a greater impact. And <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">discovery<\/em> because we would like people to explore and understand different perspectives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">We sat together, the six of us, to bounce ideas off of each other. And have come up with a list of possible features and content ideas that we\u2019d like to start prototyping. These features in one way or the other aid the emotions that we aim to elicit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Features<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">POV (in the shoes of the character)<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Interactive Campus Map (inspiration: <a href=\"http:\/\/bear71.nfb.ca\">bear71.nfb.ca<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">360\u00b0 video? (because they&#8217;re very powerful)<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Social Media (to personalize the experience)<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Survey at the end<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Story branches (choose your own adventure)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Content Ideas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Physically identical characters<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Animation<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Positive interactions between different races<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Abstracting out race completely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Going forward into the next week we will work on narrowing down the medium and also work on the branding for the project.
