A glance at our week

With half presentations staring at us 3 weeks from the future, here\u2019s how the week went for our team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let prototypes drive the design direction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our learning in the past few weeks, our research, and the feedback we got after our quarter\u2019s presentation have convinced us to change our design philosophy. We have decided to let results from our prototyping drive our design decisions. Considering the fact that we are building for a new technology, this approach seems more natural. With this in mind we started brainstorming some ideas for our prototypes. We came up with three simple prototype ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) Puzzle Prototype<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Goal<\/strong>:  Get past all the\nobstacles and reach the end of the level<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start state<\/strong>: The player is shown the entire level in advance and\nmust upload videos to get past all its obstacles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rules<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Upload\nthe video of movement before the game starts<\/li>
  2. Use\nany movement whenever needed to get past an obstacle<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Obstacles<\/strong>: Crates, boxes, pillars and other obstacles \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One possible solution to solve the puzzle<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    While playing the game the players can choose one of the uploaded movements by clicking a button associated with that movement<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    An example where the player uses the crouch movement to get past an obstacle<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    2) Fighting Prototype<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Goal<\/strong>:  Defeat enemy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Start state<\/strong>: The player is shown the fighting pattern of the enemy\nin advance and must upload videos to defeat the robot<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Rules<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Player can watch the robot\u2019s movements before uploading the videos<\/li>
    2. Player can upload \u2018n\u2019 number of moves (Eg. n = 5)<\/li>
    3. Player can adjust the sequence of the moves (which makes n! possible sequences, so 120 possible sequences if n = 5)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      3) Storytelling Prototype <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Goal<\/strong>:  Create a story with\nfriends<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Start state<\/strong>: The players are given a theme, a scene (setting), and\na set of words\/sentences to describe narrative<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Rules<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. The player must add all components of the game (story\/sentences\/words, music, videos etc.)<\/li>
      2. Each player is assigned a task that they must complete (shooting videos, sentences, selecting character\u2019s outfit, environment assets etc.) <\/li>
      3. The uploaded videos must each be less than 10 seconds in length<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Obstacles<\/strong>: Time limit\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Client meeting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        On Wednesday Feb 13 we presented our\n3 prototype ideas to our client. Our client gave us some valuable feedback\nwhich we are using to refine the design of our prototypes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Art style and character<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        We decided to choose a human like\ncat as our main character. The reason for this is that cats are fun and fit well\nwith all of our ideas. This will allow us to prototype faster without spending\ntime on choosing a theme and designing different characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Here\u2019s a look at our character. Our character\u2019s appearance can easily be changed by changing the texture, which is a quick process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
